The history of this legendary company dates back to 1887 when Torakusu Yamaha created it for producing reed organs.But it was in july 1 1955 Yamaha started producing bikes.
RD350 :Race Derived(1983-1990)
The first bike they produced in India was a joint venture the RD 350.They joined hands with Rajdoot.It was assembled by ESCORTS under the name of RAJDOOT.But sadly the 350 didn't repeat its success in India due to the high purchase price and high fuel price.
There where two models of RD in India the high torque version(30 bhp) and the low torque version(27 bhp) this cut in power was due to the low quality of fuel those days and get a decent mileage(A RD in good condition gives u mileage any where between 4 and 24) .Production of this legend stopped in 1990, but still the bike enjoys a cult status among bikers.
